Prep in Verdal, Rehearsals: Verdal Kultruskole, Performing: Verdal Swimminghall, with Katrine Pedersen and Gina Hansen.
A performance and interaktive workshop for kids around and in the water.

Prep-Project gigg May 23:
At the Verdal Cinema, with Karen Birgitte Borud. A multitasked gigg before the premiere of “the little mermaid” live movie version.

Through a magical, educational and interactive experience, “Havfruenes Verden ( The World of the Mermaids) intends to take children on a journey through the challenges, joys and mysteries of the sea and merpeople in it.

Through dance, singing, theater and water play. We want to engage the children in how we can take care of the marine environment, while at the same time giving them an unforgettable bathing experience.

Trailer!

The experience is available in two versions!

The water version– in the swimming pool, where we are in and around the pool.

The land version– adapted to different viewing spaces, such as stage, dance studio, blackbox etc.

In the performance, the audience meets  a curious mermaid and an ancient jellyfish.  They explore and move between two worlds – land and water – The experience is interactive, so the children are with us the whole way in different ways. The movement language is physical and playful, with elements of acrobatics and ballet, flow and improvisation, inspired by the movements of water. The soundscape is built around both original music tracks and natural sounds from water, breathing, and “siren song” from the performers and participants, which gives the experience a dreamy and suggestive character.

Target group

The performance is intended for children aged 5-9 and stimulates imagination, joy of movement, interest in water and wonder for the living in it both real and magic creatures.

It gives participants the opportunity to see professional dance and movement themselves in creative ways. We wants the children to enjoy being in and around water both in a pool and on land;) Havfruenes verden intends also to contribute to  a creative supplement to regular swimming lessons.

  Feedback:

Nice performance you have created and dramaturgy. It was varied, where the children were able to participate physically, sing and intellectually. You take them on a journey and create a magical space that is nice to see. THANK YOU for a beautiful and valuable performance!– Silje Olava Bakken. Booking Manager Dombås Nov 2025

– It was exciting to meet the mermaid, and nice to try her tail. (Participant) Great, it was really fun that they were allowed to play and learn about the sea
– Mom Ida Amble Ruge and daughter Sigrid, Dombås Community Center Nov 2025

“Great arrangement!”  – Kari Lise Hynne, mother of two participants who both landed and won the June 2025 version, Trøndelag.

Wow – so beautiful! With both Steinkaret and Svømmehallen as adventurous and sensory experience arenas for the young. You are an inspiration for wonder and exploration  – Anne Hulbækdal, Steinkjer Library

“You guys are really good at keeping your focus on those kids!”
Rune Aasen, photographer and documentation manager for the swimming pool.

Pre-project week August 24.

Together with mermaids Katrine (Nemone) and Gina (Koral) from northern Norway, we created a magical weekend 16-18 in Verdal.

Through an interactive workshop and performance at Verdal Svømmehall, we invited children into our enchanting mermaid world. The experience included storytelling, siren singing with the kids, a mini performance, and of course, swimming and exploring the water together.

A heartfelt thank you:
to the parents, children, and my mermaid team for making this weekend unforgettable 💙.
A special thanks to Verdal Svømmehall for providing the performance space,
Verdal Kulturskole for letting my drop by enwg I need 👌🏻👏🏻
iVerdal for the wonderful article 🩵.

This weekend gave us valuable insights into what different age groups enjoy and need, inspiring new ideas for the future. I’m already looking forward to next time and diving even deeper into the possibilities this can offer. 😊

Note: A video from the weekend is available upon request. It will primarily be used for  further application purposes.

Pre-project/gigg May 23: The Little Mermaid .

Together with child librarian, cosplayer, and fellow mermaid Karen Birgitte, we hosted a special event in our hometown, Verdal, in collaboration with the local cinema. This was organized to celebrate the premiere of Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

Dressed as mermaids, we engaged with the children by taking photos with us, sharing a new mermaid story, drawing water creatures together, and dancing and moving with them before the movie 🙂
